Our Story

We have been providing reliable generator solutions for years. Our journey is built on expertise, innovation, and a commitment to keeping businesses powered when it matters most.

Powering New Zealand with Expertise & Reliability

In 2011, Don and Stuart saw a gap in the New Zealand market. Businesses needed high-quality generators backed by expert service. Partnering with two of Europe’s top manufacturers, they launched QPower with a simple, no-nonsense approach: deliver top-tier power solutions with the expertise to match. Today, that same philosophy drives the business, allowing QPower to respond rapidly and effectively to any challenge.

Don’s journey has been anything but conventional. He’s gone from shearing sheep to mining, banking in London, and ultimately, 30 years in the NZ generator industry. He’s been on the frontline of major power crises, from the Auckland Power Crisis to Canterbury’s earthquakes. Craig’s path was different but just as hands-on. Growing up on a West Otago farm, working in the automotive industry, and eventually joining QPower in 2014, he has helped drive its evolution ever since.

From a small depot in Dunedin to a nationwide powerhouse, QPower has steadily expanded:

2011

Founded in Dunedin, establishing a partnership with Visa SPA to supply high-quality generators to the New Zealand market.

2012

Opened the Christchurch branch, driving rapid South Island growth.

2013

Partnered with Tecnogen, introducing the groundbreaking low-acoustic Fusteq range.

2014

Entered the North Island market, extending its reach nationwide.

2015

Opened a purpose-built Dunedin branch, strengthening its South Island base.

2022

Launched its flagship Christchurch branch in Harewood.

2024

Partnered with EPower International to roll out its first hybrid p-grid product in 2025.

QPower isn’t just about generators. It’s about relationships. Strong supplier partnerships, a customer-first mindset, and a tight-knit team culture have been key to success. When they’re not powering businesses, the team enjoys hunting, fishing, and supporting local sports, from Otago Rugby Referees to Canterbury Cricket.

The nature of QPower’s work means the team is always on the move, travelling across New Zealand to ensure businesses, communities, and emergency services have the backup power they need. Whether it’s a remote rural site, a major construction project, or a critical power failure, QPower’s expertise and responsiveness set it apart.

But when the pressure is on, QPower delivers. Whether it’s restoring power to Papanui High School in two hours, responding to the 2022 Wanaka scrub fire, or working around the clock during Cyclone Gabrielle, the team thrives under challenge. Whatever the job, wherever the need, QPower is always ready to respond.
